In trouble...

I have been offered a job teaching physics and environmental science at an all-girls catholic high school. I have to decide whether or not to take it by Sunday. Discuss.

had you known fifteen years ago that you would eventually be faced with what surely is every straight male's fantasy.....

maybe you should suggest a new dress code, involving floor length habits.

_serious_ the real question here is are you up to teaching again? it's helpful that you would be in an environment where in all likelihood you wouldn't have to deal with much of the problems inherent in a public school setting. on the flipside, i recall you were pretty burnt on teaching and wanted to make a change (which i suppose you would not be preculded from doing, either way) _/serious_

the good: working in an all-girl's catholic high school.
the bad: working in an all-girl's catholic high school (you have seen election, right?).

THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!
THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!

PS--I was in Lawrence Sunday on my way home from a bachelor party in KC (not mine). Gabriel and I stopped at Pepperjax's for lunch. I wanted to call you and find out if you were free to meet us for lunch, then I remembered that you, Jacque, and Sammy weren't in Lawrence anymore.

I cried a tear on the inside, then I went back to enjoying my Philly cheesteak.

Hopefully I am not too late. Is this a full year gig or is it contract by semester? I agree with Matthew, I don't think you will have as many problems as with public school, but seriously, if the budget allows papa to be a freelancer, or a substitute teach. Why not do that for your first year, and then see where you are.

Oh, I forgot, if its a semester gig, why not give it a shot, unless you have such a bitter taste like from the jam sessions, maybe you should hold off till spring.

I agree with vimineous -- If Dr. Wife is pulling in enough cashola to make ends meet, then take a year to decompress and HEAL after the beast of a few years you've had. Plus you get the incredible joy of being with Sam.

much love -- mjt

I enjoyed your blog when I reviewed it last week for Surfer's Paradise. Thought I'd come back to see what you decided about the job.

Teaching is one of the most important jobs there is. Not something to be taken lightly. I'll be interested to see what you're going to do.

Ultimately what it comes down to is that whatever decision you make is the right decision. However it plays out in the future doesn't make the decision right or wrong.

I hope the Surfer's Paradise link serves you well.

I have a bias opionion because you are the best teacher I ever had. It is hard for me to imagine you not teaching. Mostly because there were times when I never would have made it through high school without you. I know that you have suffered many losses recently, making the idea of teaching less appealing, but I also know in my heart that I am not the only person that you have saved. It is my belief that those kids would be better off for having you in their lives. Now you just need to decide if that is good for you.
